Abstract

Salinity variation is a critical environmental factor affecting physiological functions, osmoregulation, and overall health in aquaculture species such as tilapia. This study investigates the influence of salinity gradient on gill health and survival rate in tilapia to determine optimal salinity conditions for sustainable aquaculture practices. The proposed methodology involves controlled experimental trials across a range of salinity levels representative of freshwater to brackish environments. Key parameters, including gill morphology, histopathological changes, survival rate, growth performance, and physiological stress indicators, are evaluated using standard aquaculture and laboratory techniques. Water quality parameters such as salinity, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and ionic composition are continuously monitored. The collected data are preprocessed through cleaning, normalization, and statistical validation to ensure consistency and reliability. Advanced analytical and machine learning models, including regression analysis, Random Forest, and Artificial Neural Networks, are employed to analyze the relationship between salinity levels and fish health indicators. Experimental results indicate that moderate salinity levels enhance osmoregulatory efficiency and maintain gill integrity, resulting in improved survival rates. In contrast, extreme low or high salinity conditions lead to structural damage in gill tissues, impaired gas exchange, and increased physiological stress, ultimately reducing survival. The study identifies an optimal salinity range that supports both gill health and overall fish performance. The findings highlight the importance of precise salinity management in tilapia farming systems. The study concludes that integrating controlled salinity regulation with data-driven monitoring provides a sustainable and efficient approach for improving fish health, enhancing survival rates, and optimizing aquaculture productivity.
